Sick of the same old routine each summer? You know the drill...hanging out at the lake, working at Tim's or Micky D's, playing X-Box, _______________
(Fill in the blank)!

Maybe you want to do something different...like give back what's being invested in you spiritually by your folks, your youth pastor, your church?

How would you like to:
Learn a new ministry skill like mime or clowning?
Work with disadvantaged children or youth? Work in a food bank or some other relief or development type work?
See some amazing new sights?
Eat some amazing new foods?
Experience a new language and culture?

Sound good? If so check out the following!

Q. What is it?

The goal is deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ and learn to serve and love other people. You'll also get a glimpse of God 's heart for people around the world by going on an outreach somewhere in North America or a foreign country.

Q. Where is it and how does it work?

T.I.M. starts with a summer training camp in July on the campus of Living Faith Bible College near Caroline, Alberta. You will experience things like  praise and worship, Bible and life skills teaching, times of prayer, physical conditioning, team building, small groups, drama and arts training...AND TONS OF FUN!!

Q. How long is it?

The program runs just over one month in July-August with one week of training and 3 1/2 on outreach and debrief (the dates have yet to be finalized for the program for 2008).

Q. Who can be part of it?

Any teen who is 13 years of age through high school, loves and knows Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, fills out an application with references and is accepted.

Q. Where will I be staying during the training?

In college dormitories at Living Faith Bible College.

Q. Who leads teams on outreach?

Leaders come from many walks of life. College students, youth leaders, youth pastors, etc. Each team also has an overall leader. Leaders are chosen based on character, leadership experience with youth in Christian ministry (and cross-cultural experience). Each team also has small group leaders who serve under the team leader.

Q. Where will I be going on outreach?

Jamaica

Ewarton, Saint Catherine, Jamaica

Final dates to be determined

The island of Jamaica was discovered by Christopher COLUMBUS in 1494 and settled by the Spanish early in the 16th century. The native Taino Indians, who had inhabited Jamaica for centuries, were gradually exterminated, replaced by African slaves. England siezed the island in 1655 and a plantation economy - based on sugar, cocoa, and coffee - was established. The abolition of slavery in 1834 freed a quarter million slaves, many of which became small farmers. Jamaica gradually obtained increasing independence from Britain, and in 1958 it joined other British Caribbean colonies in forming the Federation of the West Indies. Jamaica gained full independence when it withdrew from the federation in 1962. Deteriorating economic conditions during the 1970s led to recurrent violence as rival gangs created by the major political parties evolved into powerful organized crime networks involved in international drug smuggling and money laundering. The cycle of violence, drugs, and poverty has served to impoverish large sectors of the populace.

This will be our third team to Jamaica in three years. The 2008 TIM team will be ministering in the community of Ewarton which is a couple of hours northwest of Kingston. Ministry opportunities will include Daily Vacation Bible School, community outreach and some ministry in local churches. You will live at a mission house but will spend most of your time up close with the children and other people of the community of Ewarton . Play with children, do DVBS, & visit battered and an abandoned children's facility.

Many parents in Jamaica work long hours just to make ends meet. This leaves children running free and left to their own devices... which often leads to trouble. Last year's team ministered to some 1200 children in 3 weeks/ If you love kids, Jamaica, (and TIM in general) is for you!

APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 15/2008

COST:$2400 (includes training camp and debrief, airfare, outreach).

A BIG toy!

The Vision of Teen Impact Missions...
... is to see teenagers embrace and grip Biblical Christianity for themselves and walk before God and man setting an example in faith, conduct and purity. (1 Timothy 4:12). We exist to complement and partner with local churches in equipping and preparing youth and young adults to be leaders and to be salt in their communities, province, Canada, and amongst the nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

From The Director:
Throughout history those that have been the missionary "heroes" were usually not the super talented or famous, but those ordinary, everyday people who stepped out in faith and believed God's promises and obeyed His command to go to the uttermost parts of the earth. Is this how you view yourself...an everyday "joe" who wants to give God their "all"? Then come join us!! With TIM you might not bring a nation or people group to Christ in three weeks, but you will begin a journey where you begin to see God's heart for the peoples of the world. You will also be stretched and challenged personally to grow in Christ and get out of your comfort zones. Most long term missionaries on the field today got their first step to the nations on a short term missions trip. Why not join them? Come experience the IMPACT!

Gene Enns

P.S. The super talented are welcome too!
